razors pain you, rivers are damp, acid stains you, drugs cause cramps, gun aren't lawful, nooses give, gas smells awful, you might as well live.
my favourite movie is probably 'girl, interrupted' and has been for a couple years, surprisingly pre-tumblr. i'm not sure as to why i love it, but i do. it's set in the 1960s, and tells the autobiographical tale (it's based off the same-titled novel by susanna kaysen) of an eighteen year old girl who is sent to a mental institution. to me, she doesn't seem that crazy but i guess at the time her thoughts and actions would have been pretty radical, which i guess being from this interesting context makes it more all the more interesting to observe. it then basically follows the story of her stay there with interactions with the other patients, disputes with the orderlies, and her attachment to the troublesome lisa (played by angelina jolie, in basically the only role i like her in). i won't spoil it too much but a couple things happen in between to make the story all the more interesting. i guess it's more of a character-driven plot, which is my favourite kind, that follows susanna's journey and scrutinies on whether or not she is actually mad. all of the characters display a complex dynamic though, generating it captivating the whole way through. i have also read the book but somehow didn't find it as satisfying as the film. all in all, watch it, i dare you.
