crazy for you
my friends forewarned me i probably wouldn't like her since i'm usually not the biggest advocate for female vocalists, but although the singer is at times - most of the time - a little whiney, something about this album has got me. perhaps i'm just trying to be defiant. in some songs she reminds me of a mix between tegan & sara and karen o and in others tracyanne campbell, which for me i would normally consider not the best thing, but for some reason me likey, me likey a lot. i suppose it's what i would imagine a less noisy and more popped out version of what a girl wavves would sound like which is fantastic. please excuse me, i'll stop comparing now, i'm starting to believe best coast is a bit incomparable.

i'm a bit slow to jump on the sleigh bells wagon but wow, totally not what i expected. another female vocalist to add to the like, thankfully! for some reason i was under the impressive they would be super chill but what a huge surprise. super loud and catchy, although the songs seem chaotic and disjointed they still sound as though they've been put together exactly how they were meant to sound. ironically with such a distinctive sound, compared to one another all the songs end up seeming somewhat similar so there's potential for me getting sick of them quick. but for now i'm sure having fun times listening. often bands like this come out with even better second albums, so one to watch i think.
stand out: crown on the ground

gorilla manor
i heard these guys a while ago when my friend was playing them in the car. originally thinking they were literally a local band from around my area i asked "hey, is this that local band?" to which he replied "yeah, local natives" and since then i've been meaning to attain this album. i think i would be even more impressed if they were actually a band from around here, but i'm still quite impressed anyway. i loved the lyrics to several of the songs as well as the uniqueness of the singer's voice, and although they're not what i would usually listen to, i think i've fallen in love.

an unusual amount of female vocalists to report on today, though a sunny day in glasgow don't quite match up the other ones for me unfortunately. after i'd been meaning to obtain them for months, perhaps years, i was a bit disappointed to find i didn't enjoy them as much as i thought i would. a little too simplistic and at times, dare i say a bore. but perhaps being so excited for summer, i'm just more looking for catchy summery hooks at the moment. though more often than not, it takes me a while to develop a like for dream pop artists, so perhaps with more listening i could very likely grow to love them.
stand out: i found the white witch had something entrancing about it, but failures is probably a more universal favourite

sleep forever
i was warned of the fantasticness of this album and i'm a little bit sad to say i think it may have fallen short of my expectations! don't get me wrong, it's still quite fantastic but while the majority of the songs i fell in love with instantly, i think crocodiles still have a little way to go before they reach a 10/10. i'm a bit troubled with whether i'm a bigger fan of this one or summer of hate, since i usually like first albums better, but after this one i think i might have to change that habit. they seem to have made an effort in making their songs a bit more aesthetically pleasing this time round and although their sound is characteristically pretty raw, i think it's working for them.
