BDO11

big day out 2011, where do i begin? the start would probably be the best.

the first we saw were the naked and famous, who i practically ran into the park for so i wouldn't miss out on young blood. luckily i didn't and i also kindled a love for another of their songs girls like you. after that we were already tired, which wasn't a good sign considering it was only the beginning of the day! but also around the hottest time so it was excusable.

after sitting down for a good thirty minutes or so, sit-dancing to operator please's song about ping pong we got up again, refreshed and keen for children collide; another favourite of mine. they were reallly good, playing both chosen armies and across the earth, two of my favourites.

we were also quite close (about the fifth row) which was good and bad; good for obvious reasons but also a little bad considering there was so much dancing in the front row and our faces, feet, and everything else ended up covered in dirt afterwards.

the time after that is a bit of a blur until it reached the third band of my viewing choice, CSS. unfortunately i was with one of my friends who didn't dance that much at first so it started off pretty average, but as they got into the good ones, let's make love and listen to death from above, music is my hot hot sex and alala she couldn't help but start raving and that's when it got pretty damn good.

the short time we had after CSS and when the next band we wanted to see was playing we went to the water sprayers, which unfortunately for me meant missing out on lupe fiasco since everyone was just too hot to be bothered, but that was okay being i only know two songs anyway. the sprayers were located outside the band amy meredith's set so we heard their radio hits like pornstar and lying which was all right; it's always fun dancing to live music you know, regardless of whether you're a huge fan of not. after that we made our way back to the boiler room to listen to die antwoord, actually as a joke since my friend and i find them ridiculous, but much to our surprise they were actually pretty catchy. we still had opportunities to laugh between songs though as they made their announcements to the audience.

we had another forty-five minute break then until crystal castles, so we decided to rest up our energy. and just as well, crystal castles went off. sadly alice glass had a broken ankle and a stage helper almost tricked the audience into believing she wasn't going to play but thankfully they did, and alice got up on speakers broken leg and all. they played a couple from their first album, such as crimewave and alice practice which was really good, as well as a favourite of mine reckless.

i wasn't too familiar with the last song they played, not in love, but naturally i still danced like mad and we found ourselves at the sprinklers once again. bathroom breaks, running into people we knew and jumbo lemonades happily filled the time we had between crystal castles and the next one on the list, the bloody beetroots. two of the four friends i attended big day out with went off to edward sharpe whilst the other friend and i stayed back to rave to the bloody beetroots, but unfortunately for me this friend changed her mind and attended iggy and the stooges instead. but being so excited for them, i decided to blood beetroot it up by myself, which was actually all right as somehow i always manage to find people anyway.

they were also really good, like amaazingly so. they were much better than i had expected which resulted in there being so much dancing on my part. unfortunately as i was alone for a bit of the time i had a couple bogans trying to rape me but thankfully it's pretty easy to escape within a crowd of hundreds. after the bloody beetroots i got lost for a bit and ended up making friends with a couple high, but very nice, people for about a half hour until i ran into my two friends that had attended edward sharpe and off to LCD soundsystem we went.

one of the best people i've ever seen live, if not the most. he/they were so fantastic, playing mostly off the sound of silver and this is happening albums; two of his finest i believe. although it is incredibly hard to pick highlights, dance yrself clean, tribulations and the finale which i wasn't familiar with but still highly appreciated, yeah, pretty much blew my mind. PNAU was the last band we wanted to see and while we couldn't be bothered to make our way through the mass crowd after bolting from LCD, and just generally being tired post-that-much-freaking-raving, we could still see the stage pretty well and found the music loud enough to rave sufficiently to (more specifically to wild strawberries and baby). a more recent favourite of mine was no more violence, which luckily i'd become obsessed with a day before the festival, so that was incredibly amazing live too.

overall all the bands i saw were incredibly good playing live, which was quite a pleasant surprise, not that i'd expect much less from several of my favourite bands. after PNAU we were pretty much screwed but found a way to dance to MIA's paper planes, which although i cannot usually stand MIA i found thoroughly enjoyable, at least for the 75% of it we could bring ourselves to dance to. MIA was the last to play so after that it was train time home, or in other words, la fin.
oh, and i almost forgot one of the most important things: what i wore. my outfit actually wasn't that significant in fashion terms considering how hot it was predicted to be, i didn't care too much as to how it looked just so long as i survived. and to state the obvious, thankfully i did.
