black swan

so i watched black swan this morning and came to the conclusion it was either just was i expected, or nothing like it; i can't decide. it's not a mindfuck per se as in time it's quite easy to deduce what's going on, and conceivably why, but nonetheless in particular parts it certainly plays around with your head. the basic storyline is somewhat familiar in films, but aronofsky (the wrestler, requiem for a dream) manages to make it seem original, like the first of its kind ever made; which, without giving too much away, i guess it is. i think it's the ending that makes this film so "perfect." whilst (some of) the events throughout seem somewhat ordinary to any ballet film and as though they can be explained or justified rationally, aronofsky's dexterity in psychologically horrific film-making rectifies any chance of this occurring. without possessing any of the conventional thriller tactics, he still manages to creep (perhaps not so far to say scare) the pants off you yet simultaneously leave the audience wanting more. it’s not blood and gore and things jumping out at you that makes black swan terrifying, but how feasible to humanity aranofsky makes it seem. the casting was perfect i thought; natalie portman's performance was amazing, as predicted. there was one scene towards the end i was skeptical of how she would perform but it was executed perfectly while supporting actor mila kunis, who i can usually not bear, also fit the role perfectly. being a fan of winona ryder, i had wished she was in it a bit more but i don't think it would've added more to the film so i'm probably just being biased. there are many assumptions behind this film, none as of yet officially announced, but being such an intricate story of a person's journey, i think it's better viewed from a subjective viewpoint rather than a coherent plot to have spoon fed to you. so go on, watch it and decide for yourself, i don't think you'll be disappointed. i apologise if this is terribly written, my mind's still a bit scrabbled.
