love mentioned potentially more times than sex during raps and self-loathing lotharios can't possibly make for good music, right? wrong. the weeknd masters something i think a lot of R&B artists seem to have missed and that's what makes him really stand out. i'll have to admit my expectations for him - not characteristically being a fan of R&B at all - were a little low, but i've been proven very, very wrong with abel tesfaye's house of balloons. this album's not new, in fact his second release, thursday, came out just a couple of days ago, but house of balloons is definitely the one to listen to if you want to fully grasp the magnifique behind the man (and then ease into the rest later, correct in chronology, as you should). one of the best things about finding gems such as these is the way it can expand your palette to other spectrums in the music world, ultimately gaining you an increasingly more awesome itunes collection and in turn some pretty worldly taste. and another plus? i'm quite certain you could seduce anyone by simply playing it in their presence i.e. pure. sex. WARNING: album may cause serious addiction. i've had mine on repeat for about two months.
